Do you have to be sitting or can you be more active?

Freestyle™ Hands-free breast pump features in-bra collection cups for multi-tasking and comes with an internal rechargeable battery, so you don't have to be plugged into a wall while using. Whether you choose to pump while sitting, walking around or tending to your baby Freestyle™ Hands-free allows you both options. However, the cups are not designed to be used while bending completely or during intense exercise as there is an opening (pouring spout) at the top of the cups through which milk could spill out.

Since using the Medela symphony while in NICU with my daughters I haven’t been able to find another pump that seems to get the same amount of milk until now. And the best bit is no bottles hanging off your chest making it and you completely mobile!!! I love that this pump has the power but is so lightweight and comfortable. There are only three parts that need cleaning and it doesn’t take a degree to put it together. The cups have a flat bottom which means they sit safely on the bench without falling over and spilling precious milk. Another great feature is the pump uses a usb charger so it’s easy to charge while travelling. If it came with a travel bag and the pump screen was able to be locked (as it can be a little sensitive when in your pocket) would definitely be a 5 star review.

The suction cups are shaped to fit perfectly inside your nursing bra, in a convenient rounded egg shape. The discrete shape means you can freely do tasks without anything noticeably sticking out of your bra. I was able to pump on the highest level with ease and comfort each time, and collect minimum 120mls Unlike other motorised milk collectors, this one has no bulky batteries in my bra. The attached cord is long enough for the battery component to fit right in my pants pocket. Highly recommended as it is super compact and convenient.

I was gifted the Medela freestyle hands free and I love this one even more. It is an absolute game changer that you can just pop the cups in your bra, the device in your pocket, press play and carry on with what you are doing. I love how portable and convenient it is. With the Medela Swing I would sit down for however long it took and often get caught out if baby needed me. Whereas with this pump I can go and pick baby up and continue to express at the same time. I am amazed at how much more milk you can express and how quickly the cups filled up. The timer function on the screen is also very handy. It is super easy to set up with very clear instructions. It feels great and comfortable when you are wearing the cups. It has bluetooth so you can connect it to the Medela app and track your expressing. I have only used this feature a couple of times but it all seemed very straight forward. You have the option of pumping on or both breasts. If you want to just do the one side you clip the end of the tube into the middle of the tube as shown in my pictures. I love how easy it is to empty the cups into the bottle or storage bags. It is also very easy to come apart and clean. I have told my mothers group about this pump, I strongly recommend it if it fits within your budget.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Convenient and Efficient Pump [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I struggled with my milk supply with my first baby, and eventually got into a routine of pumping to increase my supply. Making time in the routine to pump was tricky, but I made it work. Now, second time around with a toddler and a newborn, I definitely don’t have the liberty of pumping as part of my routine with a fixed pump like I used with my first (plugged into the wall outlet). Enter the Medela Freestyle Hands Free pump. This pump has allowed me the flexibility to pump while multitasking nappy changes, meals and play time. It has allowed me to maintain good milk supply while also being able to attend to the needs of my very active toddler, while also having the flexibility to breast or bottle feed my baby. Unlike my previous fixed pump which came with hundreds of pieces, this product was simple and not daunting. The assembly instructions were straight forward and easy to follow. Like anything, it was a learning curve to put it together and use it correctly, but once you know how to do it, it is very easy and straight forward. The instructional video I found online was helpful. Noise wise, it is comparable to a fixed pump, and the pump feels as strong. The pieces are sturdy, easy to put together and easy to clean. The one downside is that there is limited visibility of the nipple to make sure it is in an optimal position, and it is harder to see the amount of milk collected than with a traditional bottle shaped pump. I do also feel that slightly less milk is collected with this pump, and I have had more success when using it as a single rather than double pump personally. The flexibility more than makes up for these small issues. If this pump is within budget, I highly recommend considering it, especially if planning more than one baby- being able to be mobile is definitely more important to me the second time around, so bit of a false economy buying a fixed pump with my first.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I am 2 weeks post partum and have been using a hospital grade corded pump to increase supply. I was asked to trial this pump and I did today - all I can say is Wow! I had just had a decent 45 minute cluster feeding session so was feeling quite empty in both breasts, but I managed to express 20ml from one side and 55ml from the other side in only 8 minutes! The pumps were so easy to use, they come in two sizes 21 and 24 and there’s hardly any compartments to put together. I wore mine in a Medela bra that allowed them to fit perfectly! It was really comfortable and light weight. The pump fitted into the pocket of my pants and was surprisingly quiet. I love the automatic stimulation period which then transitions to normal pumping. And the time showing on the pump is clear. You can also download the application onto your phone to save your pumping session and data to keep track of. In the time I did the pumping session I could empty and reload the dishwasher handsfree! Definitely worth getting one of these!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Impressive portable breast pump [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I received the Medela Freestyle hands free breast pump and the Medela 3 in 1 Nursing and Pumping Bra in exchange for my review as part of Tell Me Baby’s Mums Critics. I am exclusively breastfeeding my baby who I usually feed direct on the breast. Inside the box was the pump along with a choice of either 21mm or 24mm shields. The control unit came fully charged and ready for use. I chose to use the 21mm shield which fit fine. I have another breast pump for which I use 17mm shields. However I notice no difference in output between my regular 17mm shields and the 21mm Medela shields. The pump is super convenient and easy to use. The instruction manual explains how to use the pump and I had no issues or confusion with understanding how to use the pump. I placed the collection shells into my bra and turned the pump on. I like how the control unit lights up and the pump immediately went into let down mode. After 2 minutes the system automatically changes to expression mode if that mode isn’t already activated. I then adjusted the vacuum mode until it felt comfortable. Because the collection cups are in my bra and I don’t feel letdowns, I am happy to wait until the expression mode is automatically activated. I love how I can walk around and do other tasks while pumping and that I am not stuck sitting down. I no longer have to strategically time a pump around when bub is napping! The convenience of the pump is a massive positive. The pump also has a delay start function where you can delay pumping for 10 seconds. I pump for approximately 15 minutes and I like that the time shows on the control unit. The pump also has bluetooth connectivity so you can connect to the Medela family app and automatically transfer pumping information. I was pleasantly surprised that after just 15 minutes I was able to collect 110mL (total) of breastmilk. I had previously heard that portable breast pumps aren’t as effective as pumps which are connected to a big unit. However I have been able to pump the same amount of milk using the Medela hands free as I am able to from a regular breast pump. I would definitely recommend this pump to others given how effective it is at extracting milk while also being super convenient and easy to use.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works well and comfortable [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was kindly gifted the medela hands free pump and it's honestly a game changer. After a unsuccessful breastfeeding journey with my first I wanted to be more prepared this time around. The Medela hands free pump is comfortable and discrete aswell as having great suction to effectively remove milk. I also used this pump to help bring my milk in and it worked very well and I was still able to get colostrum in the first day or so without it getting all lost in the part. Having sore nipples at the time I found this pump was still comfortable to use on level 3 while still working effectively. This pump is also simple to pull apart to clean and sterilise unlike others. I also like that spare parts/ tubing etc is available local to us unlike others that need to be ordered online. The pump also came with 2 flange sizes and I found 24mm perfect for me. The only downfall would be the control is a little sensitive if in your pocket and I do wish there was a clip on the back of the control for when you don't have pockets or your pockets are too small. Overall I'm very pleased with this pumps efficiency and with how simple it is to use. I would highly recommend it to others.

I had purchased a pump when I left hospital and the performance was not up to scratch. It made me get so many blocked ducts etc. I decided to purchase a new one and had heard good things about the new Medela handsfree pump. It’s is amazing, it is so convenient to use and I’ve actually seen an increase on my output! After sitting down multiple times a day holding a pump each side. It’s so lovely now to be able to do things around the house and not be constricted . I would 100% recommend this pump. It has made me feel so much more positive about the remainder of my breastfeeding journey.

My son is 6 months old and I have tried 4 different types of breast pumps to try and find a good hands free option, and by far this is the best one yet! Added bonus that there are only 3 parts making it super easy to clean and put back together! The battery also lasts significantly longer than the other pumps I have tried.

She never successfully transitioned to breast feeding- I was devastated. However I know she was still getting my milk, plus by bottle feeding I knew how much she had had! Because the hospital pump had been so handy, I invested in this pump along with some medela accessories. I love that I can be pumping whilst also still doing a few odd jobs around the house- I’m not stuck in a certain spot next to a power point 100% would recommend medela hands free to anyone who is exclusively pumping!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for a multi tasking mumma! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have used this pump exclusively for 4wks (exclusive pumper) and LOVE it. I’ve been able to do makeup and straighten hair while I pump, basic tidying of the house while I pump and check on bubs as I’m not attached to the wall. I’ve had another portable pump but this is the best. It’s also much more discreet and I’ve been more comfortable to pump when we have visitors. It’s comfortable and I’ve been able to produce as much milk as I did with the Medela symphony that I hired. I have finally had enough confidence to return it and only have this pump on hand. I do wish I could lock the screen to avoid bumping the controls as I multitask and have it in my pocket or hanging on a belt loop. I also wish I could see more of the milk dripping out (or not) as sometimes it’s efficient in 10mins and I might not have to wait 15-20. Despite these things, I love it and it’s my only pump as an (almost) exclusive pumper of an EBM 3.5m old. Very easy to clean and assemble. Most comfortable under 3way Medela pumping bra, but would be under a soft bra big enough to fit cups in that’s not too tight. Fantastic product that I’m telling anyone who will listen about.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Game changer I have used the Medela swing one side and now I’m using the Medela freestyle hands free, it was a game changer for me. I’m going back to work soon so I really need it to work. Mi comparison between the two of them: -The swing one was one side so obviously the main change is the amount of time -The hands free is more practical to put the parts together, just three pieces, nothing can go wrong. And for washing them is easier too - I feel the suction with the hands free freestyle better and I get more milk now ( I am using it for two weeks now) with the swing I pumped each side for about 10 to 15 mins each side and getting around 100 to 130 ml. With the hands free I get now in 5 to 7 mins around 150 to 180 ml. I don’t pump too much because I don’t want an oversupply, baby just need 110 ml tops each feed at the moment - With the swing I never had a pumping bra, so I had to hold it all the time. And now it’s amazing the hands free freestyle just sits there in any bra I have (still using pre pregnancy bras) and no leaks At the moment I pump at nighttime around 2am and then again around 5 am, so it’s very convenient at that time that I’m very sleepy to not have to deal with many pieces Hope it helps :D

Originally unsure what type of pump to buy, however would have picked the Freestyle Hands Free if I had known about it sooner! All the great features of previous Medela pumps, however now wearable and discreet. Quiet pumping action, and fits perfectly in maternity bras without being too busty or look like you’re pumping. Cups big enough to fill large volumes of milk. Will definitely use it at work. Machine is small and can wear on wrist while moving around. Absolutely loved it.

I was looking for a pump that was descrete, easy to take with me on the go but also emptied by breast well and boy did i find it! The pump cups fit perfectly into your bra and the motor is quiet. The best thing about this pump is that is has the freestyle motor which has 9 levels of suction and mimics baby's rhythm making it easy to empty quickly. The pump Is amazing and I would highly recommend it to everyone especially if you’re a busy mumma or have other children as well. The pump has made my life so much easier and saved me so much time. It fits in most maternity bras/singlets very nicely and doesn’t move around or fall out while using it. I would Give it a million stars out of 5 if I could.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy, Comfortable and Quiet Breastpump This product was gifted to me, and it is a game changer! I was using the Hospital pump on Rental, the Symphony, and started using the new Freestyle HandsFree recently. I am getting as much milk with this new pump as I was the hospital one. It’s very easy and convenient to use, love how quick it is to set up and can use it at any time as desired. Super comfortable as the collection cups are so light, and it is easy to move around and do things with it on. I also love how easy it is to clean; minimal parts and super easy to put back together for next use. We had visitors the other day and I was pumping in our lounge room talking to them and they did not even know until I told them; total discretion - love it!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good but could use some tweaking I like it but I find the start button to be too sensitive, if it’s hanging from my arm and brushes my clothing it will stop. The parts are easy to clean but waiting for them to air dry is a pain, I don’t always have time to wash immediately after using which means the next time I need to pump it’s not dry enough. I’d love if spare collection shells were available for purchase due to having to wait for it to air dry

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Freestyle hands free pro’s/cons Bought the hands free Freestyle back in April. Twins were born in July and loved it right away as I liked being portable with pumping. I never even read the directions and found using all the features super easy and straightforward. Pro’s - being portable obviously! - suctions just as strong as my wall pump - holds 5+ oz easily. (I have accidentally filled past 5 a few times and it still didn’t spill) - having only 3 pieces is a dream and makes it so easy to clean - even though when wearing it you feel the sound and vibration, to others it’s quiet and not noticeable. - I’m a ER RN and have been able to wear it well still doing my job and nobody knew Con’s - the base is a little bulky, I can fit it in my scrub pocket but it’s pretty thick still - they need to add a string so it can be worn around you neck and not just the wrist - I have to charge it after 5-6 30 minute pump sessions - I bought this originally in April, I bought an extra set of cups in July. They redesigned the cups and I prefer the old design. The new cups still have 3 pieces and hold the same amount, but the surface area on my boob is less and I lose the nice seal on my boob well pumping way more often with the new design

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Really easy and takes the stress away I have found my medela freestyle handsfree super easy to use and has really helped take the stress out of breastfeeding for me. My only feedback would be that the screen soooo sensitive that when I try and put in my pocket (which very few clothes have big enough pockets for) or I wear in my wrist it bumps on my side and the screen selects a different pump or shuts off. Would be really good if it had a Lock Screen function!!! Otherwise is a super product.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Milk collector [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Having originally tried using the swing Flex, this pump is significantly better for so many reasons. 1. The hands free function, yes you still have the cable hanging around and need pants that have a pocket. I got caught out on the one heaps (one thing i would fault). But my little one would always kick the bottle on the swing Flex, so i stopped using it when he was feeding. 2. Less fiddly to wash and clean 3. Stands up by itself. With the swing i had to lace so carefully or remove the pump part as too often i lost milk as it was top heavy. 4. The machine, it's not bulky and way easier to place in a pocket than a big round thing. 5. Discrete, you can wear this when you go shopping or driving the car and it doesn't cause issues. The swing just doesn't work and is not public worthy. I will agree that the price of this is high, however compared to the other Medela products it's way better if you can afford it. You can get great use out of it and if you're planning to have more than one child would recommend. I used this too build up a stash in the freezer and also increase my volume when my little one got sick or just wanted to cluster feed when i wasn't able to.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I’ve previously been using the Medela Freestyle flex pump but wanted something more discreet and easier to wear while caring for Bub. I am seriously impressed with this pump! It’s super comfortable to wear and really efficient. I am able to pump the same amount of milk as I could with the freestyle flex but without feeling like it is getting in the way. I am able to do things around the house and carry my baby without it moving out of place. Plus it’s really simple to clean! I even used it while driving in the car, in front of family and definitely feel like I will be able to use it at my desk when I return to work - unlike the freestyle flex which I would only use in a more private space. The only reason I wouldn’t give a full five stars is that I wish it had a few more settings to try out. I find I’m usually pumping at the max level - just my personal preference.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Comfortable and hands free [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Prior to using the Medela hands free pump, I’d only used regular pumps which I found very restrictive. The Medela hands free has allowed me to be get up and about around the house and also get plenty of housework done will pumping. I am pleasantly surprised with the strength of the suction and managed to pump more with the hands free pump. I also love that you can see the levels you’re on. The touch screen is great but can be a little sensitive while walking around. The pumping bra is also SO comfortable and I’ve now started wearing this even when I’m not pumping.

Would love to see this without all the cords and pump as in my opinion it’s not really hands free. Yes I can easily move my hands however the pump still creates restrictions. Easy to clean and use though.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good product This pump is really good for the portability factor, it’s awesome as it allows you to pump discretely when you really need to like when shopping etc. However in terms of suction it doesn’t fully extract all the milk I have so it’s good for some short term relief. The Medela freestyle flex is my main pump and empties me pretty well. The hands free pump is good to have alongside the freestyle for the temporarily relief.
