How do you clean Medela Solo™?


To clean Medela Solo™ follow the same procedures as for the Swing Flex™ breast pump. Solo™ is quick and easy to disassemble and clean. You can wash the components (except for the tubing) manually or use the dishwasher.

How do you sterilise a Medela Solo™ pump?


Sterilising and sanitising are two different things that sound similar. Sterilisation is a procedure that can only be performed in a special lab, normally this happens for hospital products. Sanitising can be done at home. It is easy to sanitise your Medela Solo™, follow the same simple steps as for Swing Flex™ breast pump: cover the disassembled, washed parts, except for the tubing, with water and boil at least for 5 minutes or use the microwaveable Medela Quick Clean™ bags . For further information and instructions on how to clean and sanitise the tubing, please read our Instructions for use.

Can I turn my single breast pump into a double?

Solo™ is a single electric breast pump. This means that its motor is not suitable for generating sufficient vacuum to extract milk from both breasts at the same time. If you express milk regularly and are interested in a double electric breast pump you should consider Medela's new Swing Maxi™.

How to use your Solo™ Single Electric Breast Pump

General Information

Solo™ is a single electric breast pump with closed system, that prevents breast milk from entering the tubing, overflowing and leaking into the pump mechanism. This helps ensure that your expressed milk stays safe and clean, but also that your pump's components are protected from potential damage.

Medela's Swing Flex™ breast pump has been reborn as Solo™. Solo™ is a compact, effective and easy to use single electric breast pump with rechargeable built in battery, 2-phase Expression® technology and PersonalFit Flex™ breast shield.

Really glad I settled on this especially after seeing friends constantly replacing fragile parts on theirs and struggling to clean properly. This has very few parts needing attention - have not had to replace any to date and don’t expect I will any time soon. All parts are easy to remove and reassemble in no time at all. All parts are really easy to clean. Easy to use, quick to charge. Highly recommend for a straightforward, no nonsense pump that won’t require constant maintenance or tonnes of time and effort to clean!

I used this pump to provide milk for him and to make sure my supply came in while he was too weak to breast feed. I am now not using it at all as he is fully breast feeding. I did find it time consuming because it's a single pump, but it is much cheaper than the double. The settings are easy to navigate and i found i didn't have to turn it too high to get a good amount of milk. It's very easy to clean because there are only a few parts to it. I used a microwave steamer to sterilise to make things faster.

It’s extremely easy to use and is relatively quiet. The pump is comfortable and has a good suction level that doesn’t hurt and damage your nipples when expressing. After use multiple brands of breast pumps this one is the best.

It was soooo easy to put together and use. It’s super gentle on the nipples and easy to use! It’s light and portable, you can pack and use it basically anywhere. The battery life is great too, I didn’t need to charge it that often! The only thing it just comes with one bottle so you would need to get some more! It is pretty straight forward to use no complications we love it! The only thing that was annoying was sometimes it will turn on itself when I put it in my bag! If only the on button was a switch or a case was provided so it doesn’t just turn on! I definitely would recommend it!

The solo pump was perfect for what I needed and actually super efficient to pump with for a small portable unit. I did find the unit itself a little heavy if I wanted to carry it around while pumping but that’s a tiny detail. It’s also very quick to recharge via the usb it comes with! Would definitely recommend for its price point

I find it a lot more efficient and effective than using a manual pump. The controller is a little heavy but smaller than the double pump controller and has the same functionalities. This is definitely an improvement from the old Medela Swing Solo.

I had previously owned a double pump but decided a single pump would be easier to manoeuvre whilst multi-tasking. I attached a baby toy clip to the loop on the pump, then clip the pump to the top of my pants. This allows me to be hands free whilst pumping and getting other jobs like vacuuming done at the same time. You can cut holes in a old sports bra if you don’t have a pumping bra. This pump has great suction and has increased my supply dramatically. I love that it recharges super quick and has a usb plug that I can use to recharge the battery in the car ! This pump is simple to use with the let down and suction level control buttons on the front face. I use my pump after feeds several times per day for 5 months without any issues! Love it !

It is very gentle especially during the beginning stages of learning how to express. The battery is one of the best’s I have seen and only requires charging once every few days when regularly expressing for a new born. Although it is only a single pump meaning it takes double the time to finish an expressing session.
