How Emla Skin Numbing Cream Works:
Emla helps make your skin feel numb for a short time, blocking the pain signals from only the area of skin where the cream is applied.
Emla is a topical anaesthetic cream that contains lidocaine (lignocaine) and prilocaine. It is applied directly to the skin to help lessen the pain experienced during common skin laser treatments such as the removal of unwanted hair. Emla cream needs to be applied at least 1 hour before your procedure.

• Ensure that the skin is clean and dry
• Press out sufficient quantity of cream onto the site of the procedure
• Do not spread out the cream
• For needle procedures in adults this isabout 2g or half of a 5g tube
• Take one of the enclosed occlusive dressings and remove the centre cut-out piece
• Other occlusive dressings can be used if there is no dressing in pack. E.g. plastic film such as cling wrap should be stuck on with adhesive tape

• Peel the paper liner from the paper framed dressing. Cover Emla cream so that you get a thick layer underneath
• Smooth down the dressing edges carefully to avoid leakage
• Remove the paper frame and mark the time of application on the occlusive dressing
• Remove the occlusive dressing immediately before the procedure
• Wipe off the cream and clean the area with alcohol

Emla can be used for common needle procedures, superficial skin surgery and minor superficial cosmetic skin procedures

Suitable For: Suitable for all ages (except for premature babies)

I'm a 43 year old male (that has anxiety - not proud to admit that) that has been avoiding checkups for last 20 years for fear of getting a blood test. I have a great doctor who tried other methods of diagnosing my current condition but eventually said it's time to do a blood test. He told me about these Emla patches and circled in the fold of my arm where to apply the cream and patch. After a very long week waiting for my test, I applied the cream about 90 mins before the procedure and only felt a mild pressure for about 3 seconds - no sting or ongoing discomfort! If yourself or a loved one is avoiding getting a checkup, I hope this review helps you.
